Give FDS a Preliminary Look at Your Home.

HomeScan is an optional preliminary intake. Add broad household and property context; include a short phone walkthrough only if you want to. FDS can review what you share and discuss next steps. It is not the professional assessment.

A simple first step

Record. Submit. Discuss.

  1. 01
    Record

A brief walkthrough of broad spaces you are comfortable sharing.

  2. 02
    Submit

Add household context and the topic you most want to discuss.

  3. 03
    Discuss

An FDS professional will talk through your submission and next steps.

HomeScan is preliminary context for a conversation. It is not an automated inspection or a substitute for an in-person assessment.

Choose your starting point

HomeScan and the assessment are different.

HomeScan is optional preliminary context. The $395 Family Preparedness Assessment is the separate professional service that provides structured review and personalized preparedness planning.

OPTIONAL · PRELIMINARY

HomeScan

Share broad household, property, and preparedness context for FDS professional review. A phone walkthrough is optional; written context alone is enough to submit.

  • No professional findings are produced by this intake.
  • Video is not automatically analyzed.
  • Submitting does not purchase or schedule an assessment.

Add broad household and property context. If you want to, include a short phone walkthrough for professional review. You can submit without video or skip any space.

  2. 02 Submit
  3. 03 Discuss

A simple, optional first step

A steady, well-lit walkthrough is enough.

Use your phone's regular camera. Hold it steadily at a comfortable height, record in good light, and move slowly. Horizontal or vertical video is fine; narration is optional. Pause between areas and avoid zooming in on screens, documents, or personal belongings.

FDS wants context, not a polished production. Film only the areas you are comfortable sharing; you do not need to film every room. Anything you would rather not show can be discussed during your consultation.

A visual checklist

Choose only the views that feel useful and comfortable for your household.

  • Exterior

    Property perimeter and approach

Share a broad view of the property edge and general approach from a place you choose.

  • Exterior

    Access and entry points

Show general entry areas, such as doors, windows, or gates, only if you are comfortable.

  • Exterior

    Landscaping and visibility

Point out how landscaping or fencing affects visibility in the areas you want to discuss.

  • Exterior

    Exterior lighting

Give a general view of outdoor lighting and the paths or areas it illuminates.

  • Exterior

    Security technology

Mention the general placement of devices; keep screens, controls, and settings out of view.

  • Exterior

    Garage and secondary access

Include a broad view of a garage or secondary entrance if it is relevant to your concern.

  • Interior

    Designated shelter area

Show a family gathering or shelter area only if you would like to discuss it.

  • Interior

    Relevant interior layout

Include only shared spaces or layout details related to your question. You do not need to film every room.

Keep access codes, passwords, safe combinations, hidden keys and their locations, exact valuable locations, financial or identity information, sensitive documents, and non-consenting people out of the video and your written notes.

Not sure what to say?

There is no script to follow. If helpful, talk through any of these:

  • What is the general approach to the property like?
  • Are there areas where landscaping or sightlines affect visibility?
  • Where is security technology generally placed?
  • How does the exterior lighting feel after dark?
  • Where does your family like to gather at home?
  • Is there a designated shelter space you would like to discuss?
  • What is your main preparedness concern right now?

HomeScan is an optional preliminary intake for professional review. It is not a professional assessment; video is not automatically analyzed and no vulnerability findings are generated.

Before you record

Use your phone's regular camera, hold it steadily, and move slowly in good light. Keep the video brief; narration is optional. Share only broad areas you are comfortable showing. You can skip any space or detail and discuss it with FDS later.

The video is not displayed on public pages. Authorized FDS administrators who can access your submission can open it. The file is stored at an unlisted link, not behind individual viewer access controls; anyone who receives the direct link could open it. If you do not want to share a video this way, leave it out and discuss your home during the consultation.

Protect Your Privacy

Do not record or disclose access codes, passwords, safe combinations, hidden keys or where keys are kept, exact valuable locations, financial or identity information, sensitive documents, or people who have not consented. Keep these out of both video and written notes.

Walkthrough video (optional · one video)

MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, or MPEG · HomeScan form limit: 250 MB. If a video is over this limit or the form cannot reliably accept it, use the optional Google Drive steps below or continue without a video.

Optional alternative · only if needed

For a video HomeScan cannot reliably accept

The regular upload above remains available for videos the form accepts. If your video is over the 250 MB form limit or will not upload reliably, you may share it from your own Google Drive instead. You can also submit the HomeScan intake below without a video.

  1. Upload the video to your own Google Drive (opens in a new tab).
  2. Select the video, choose Share, add familydefensefl@gmail.com, and grant Viewer access.
  3. Keep General access set to Restricted, then send the invitation.

Do not choose Anyone with the link or Public. After sending the invitation, submit the HomeScan intake below without attaching a video.

Optional preliminary intake

Share broad HomeScan context

Video is optional. Submit a few broad details by themselves, or attach a walkthrough for FDS professional review. There is no automated video analysis or vulnerability detection.

Use broad details only. No street address, household member names, or access details are needed.

Your household and contact details

Optional for email follow-up. Required only if you choose phone.

A street address is not needed.

Broad home and preparedness context

These details are optional. General categories are enough; do not map exact access points or share codes, device settings, or other sensitive details.

What would be useful to discuss?

Optional. Keep your note broad and leave out sensitive or identifying details.

HomeScan is optional. Submitting it does not confirm a consultation, purchase the $395 assessment, or confirm a visit.

A clear path forward

HomeScan is optional. You can use it as a preliminary starting point, read the assessment details, or purchase the assessment directly when you are ready.
